Luckiest Boy Alive....

A boy is missing for 2 hours before his parents realize he is gone... They discover he has floated 12k down the river they are camping on.

This will haunt these parents for the rest of their lives.... well, it would me..

Been a long time... (Xbox 360 NXE and NetFlix)

So this is officially my first post of the year. I attempted to post a couple times, but my Flock to Blogger connectivity held things up. At first I thought it was a firewall issue, but who knows. I never did figure it out. So, if some day I do, some old posts will come thru.

NXE to NetFlix:
Anyway, in November Microsoft released a new OS for the Xbox 360 called NXE or New Xbox Experience. It is very cool, has some Mii too type additions, but the BEST part was the addition of NetFlix to the console. For $8.99 per month, I can watch unlimited NetFlix movies on my Xbox 360 and up to 4 other devices. I didn't think much of it at first, but then I started watching... and watching... and watching... It is awesome. My only wish was that more of the current releases were available for download. Hopefully, this will continue to gain in momentum and more movie companies will decide to play nice with NetFlix.

NetFlix - Extending the obsession:
So then I wanted to watch NetFlix stuff like the first full 3 seasons of Heroes elsewhere in the house and not just on my Xbox 360. So, for Christmas I took some gift cards and bought an LG BD300 which is a Blu-Ray player that supports NetFlix as well. I registered in online and a few seconds later I can pick up the middle of the episode I was watching earlier on the new device. (There's more) But that wasn't enough either. Roku also has a set top device for $99 that supports NetFlix and is wireless, so I didn't even have to run an Ethernet cable to it. I just gave it my wireless network info and presto, I am not able to watch NetFlix in bed.

As for the new Xbox NXE. I like it. I especially like being able to chat with friends from different games playing either together or not. It does let you skirt some of the game controls for cheating, such as dead people talking. Some games block chat once you are dead so you cannot tell your friends where the bad guys is that just killed you. You know, you're dead, you shouldn't be able to talk.... It's not like you're Haley Joel Osment or something.

All in all I love the new NetFlix integration. The new Roku device and my LG BD300.

Below is my Home Entertainment Diagram. (Yes I know it is crazy)

Would the last honest reporter please stand up!

Meridian Magazine:: Ideas and Society: Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?

This guy has some very compelling things to say. This current crisis is more than just some political party's responsibility... it was a break down of many of the systems that are supposed to help protect the "people".

I think we have come to expect that journalism these days is politically biased one way or another and as such we don't get outraged when all they do is attempt to influence public opinion to help their political party of choice.

So, these politicians continue to distort the truth and journalists just report the completely obvious...

Commentary: Bankruptcy, not bailout, is the right answer - CNN.com

Commentary: Bankruptcy, not bailout, is the right answer - CNN.com

Here, Here! I really do not understand why everyone is so focused on attempting to bail out these idiot lenders. If you give a 100% $500K mortgage to a guy making $35K per year, you need to close your doors. We need to change government to fix the issues that created an environment where congress not only allowed, but encouraged, sub-prime lending practices that created this mess in the first place.

Blaming House Republicans for not voting to give Paulson a $700 Trillion check book with no oversight is NOT the answer. Bravo to those who voted against this action.

Good Point!

I know that nasty Republicans hate everyone and have an irrational attachment to their guns and religion, but this guy makes a great point. I am Scott Johnstone and I endorse this campaign video... (It came from YouTube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

Wild hairs... keep me busy...

Okay, so I was sitting in the den Saturday morning and just was sick of the mess of wires under the cedar chest and behind. And I have the issue of not being able to see the television from my desk because of the love seat being in the way. So I started to try to organize and decided that I needed a new T.V. stand. As you will see, I didn't find any stand I liked at the local furniture stores.

So, I broke out the tools and began to turn some wood into saw dust...

I was able to get a few 2 X 4's and other boards to build a ladder style bookshelf that holds all of my electronics...

Once I got the mess all cleaned up I was able to relax and watch some football... notice the computer screen on top of the book case on the left. It has my fantasy football score running live...

whew.... not I need to sleep...

SarahLacy.com: Memo to Stephanie Meyer: Put the Internet Down and Slowly Back Away

Memo to Stephanie Meyer: Put the Internet Down and Slowly Back Away

... So, I was sad to read in that E. Weekly about all her struggles with the Internet and the very, um, nuanced breed of rabid love and hate fans that come with it.

My Comment:
I saw an interview with Nick Clooney on the news the other day somewhat related to this idea. His feeling, that I share, is that journalism amongst this new blogging era is a mess right now and while he believes we will be better in the end for it, it will be rough for some time. I equate this to the idea that we have yet to develop any social norms or etiquette when it comes to posting comments/blogging. I have heard about online newspapers requiring posters to log in to create even a little accountability, but until people are connected to their postings I think you will still get the outrageous "flames" along with the real and appropriate until such etiquette is commonplace.

Back at'cha "TheJacolyte"

I made a comment on a YouTube posting that asked if I was Republican or Democrat? So I replyed: Republican of course. Have you seen the new VP choice... She is HOT. Perhaps she should have a YouTube area called HotForPolitics! (The comment was on a site called
"HotForWords") So, then I got an email from a 19 year old who thinks he knows something about politics. This is my reply.

TheJacolyte said...
She creates nepotism in the work place, and she's inexperienced.
She might as well have been Governor of Wyoming... or some other deserted, bum-fuck state.
You shouldn't vote based on who you would screw... csjohnstone.
Remember the last time America voted based on who they liked as a buddy? Someone they'd drink a beer with? We got stuck with Bush.
Don't vote for someone because you'd fuck them, fuck face.
------------
You do realize that she, as a VP candidate, has more experience governing experience than the alternative Presidential candidate, even if it is over the largest pool of natural resources and a portion of our country that happens to border a communist country. Attempts are being made to build a link to Alaska across the Bering Straight. Just talking about such a thing is more foreign policy work that Obama has ever done. Obama was not even in the Senate long enough to lead a committee let along a state or city or Sunday school program...

Obama is the most inexperienced person to ever run for president in my lifetime and perhaps the past 100 years. The fact that he didn't have the balls to pick a real running mate proves he is just a politician like most every other. If he had picked Hilary, I might think have given him a chance to win but Joe Biden? That guy has been a US Senator longer than almost anyone. Talk about dem establishment...

With Palin, I think McCain is proving that he is really going to attempt some real change. I agree that Bush has not lived up to the fiscal expectations of a conservative, and I do not expect McCain to even try. But, with Palin, who is a REAL conservative, perhaps there is a chance that some of the negative things I have heard about McCain are wrong. In politics, one never really knows what is going on. Certainly not in Federal politcs. I worked in government for 4 years and would say that at the local level there are a lot of good people in politics. That too gives me hope in Palin.

Palin is hot. But I wouldn't vote for her because of it. It was a joke. I know you are too young to get that. But, luckily for our country, not too young to vote your ignorance... (that is a joke too, it's called sarcasm.)

Grow up and learn to take a joke, pimple face.
